4th Annual Speakeasy event...sort of. Our 1st Speakeasy was tied to Repeal Day (Dec. 3rd) and celebrated the return to semi-normalcy following months of lockdown. Since we're in the 2020s; we tapped into the "Roaring 20's" theme in hopes of recapturing the fun, vibrance and unfettered optimism of that post-war movement.
After 2 years of fighting the Decemeber chaos & early Winter chill - flapper attire is not famously warm - we shifted to Springtime; the most optimistic of the seasons. Optimisim is a poweful force, and we hope this lively Springtime Soiree brightens the day of all who attend!
In 2024, we moved to a bigger venue: Memorial Hall (just down the street from the brewery) to accomodate more people and, let's be honest, it delivers that opulant 20's aesthetic far better than our modest beerhall ever could. We're back at Memorial Hall again this year and we'll still feature live Ragtime music, food from Fat City Kid Catering, and cocktails + beer from Luppoleto Brewing Co.
We changed the season, we changed the venue, what about that Roaring 20's theme? Well, it's still the 20's for 4 more years. But, yeah we hope the Derby Day theme will add a new, more approachable layer of fun to this year's celebration.
Memorial Hall - 1 S. Main Street, Windsor Locks CT (Where to Park)
Saturday, April 26th. Doors open at 5:30pm. Music starts at 6:00pm.
Tickets cover the band & food. Beer, Cocktails & Soft Drinks will be available for purchase at very friendly prices.
To keep things fresh and provide people easier ways to participate, we've added a "Derby Day" theme to the festivities. So if you don't have a fancy 20's flapper dress, you can still be festive with just an adorned hat.
One of the great traditions associated with the Kentucky Derby is big, festive, flamboyant hats! Don't be intimidated by any high fashion options out there, we highly recommend the DIY approach of getting an inexpensive hat and decorating it with your own unique flavor of flourishes.
Our cocktail menu will feature Kentucky Inspired libations. Mint Juleps, the Southern Drawl (which adds Souther Sweet tea to the mix) along side other Springey options and maybe even a special Bourbon bottle or two.
We collaborated with our friends at Dead Language Brewing Project to brew up our version of an American-born beer style: Kentucky Common. Brewed with local corn, rye and barley.
Answers to some common questions regarding the venue, food, dress code and more...
Absolutely not. You can come as you are and enjoy the festivities like 99% as much as the folks who come dressed to the nines.
Excellent query! No. Like the smooth tones of the Brown Paper Sax band, we think both can work in harmony. You can go big hat normal clothes, big hat fancy clothes, big hat 20's clothes, or no hat 20's clothes. The only option we do NOT support is big hat no clothes. Clothes ARE neccessary.
That was the original plan but due to a scheduling conflict, we were unable to place our celebration on Derby Day. As a bonus, you can now get 2 uses out of any Derby Day attire so...now you can't afford NOT to get into the spirit!
You drove by Memorial Hall and noticed their relatively limited parking situation eh? Good eye. Additional Parking is available in the Ahlstrom lots next to the Hall on both Elm Street and Main Street (we have been given permission to use these lots). If you are young and spry, we'd ask you to consider using one of the overflow lots to ensure folks who need to park close can do so.
