Fall '23 | Week 9 Recap

With Playoff spots on the line, they needed to win. No, they needed to win BIG. But it was not to be. Team Irish I Was Italian, sipped some magic potion and closed out their dominant season with a win. Leaving Team Botched Jobs searching for answers to life, the universe and everything. Nary a towel or Paranoid Android to comfort them.

Botched Jobs started the season with 4 straight wins, before going 1-4 in the home stretch. What went wrong? Did they get worse? Did the competition get better? Was Taylor Swift ALWAYS this popular? Did they need more Stout or maybe Whiskey to deliver optimal performance? Team Captain, Luis says he will be in a monastery somewhere in Spain pondering these questions for “At least a year”. When asked about their disappointing loss, teammate Matt said, “Maybe we should have picked a different team name.”

Team Barsenic came to play, earning a decisive victory over The Dirty Lowdowns – who were less than 100% with team captain still recovering from a run-in with a table saw. Despite a harrowing tale of Full Moons, lots of blood and a packed ER, his fingers are once again intact (He has pictures. Don’t look at them.) When asked if they felt bad beating a team with an injured player, Barsenic’s captain responded, “Come on, it wasn’t even his bocce hand…but yes, we feel a little bit bad – mostly cuz we saw the pictures.”

Team Szabo, already in playoff form, rolled over the Ball Busters. You know, maybe they spent too much time trying to bust the balls when they should have been trying to roll them close to the Palino. I think I know where they learned that Ball Busting tactic. We’ll do a quick rule session next season for Will and invite anyone else who might need a refresher.

Speaking of, Closing Time made the playoffs for the 3rd straight season. Actually wait, ALL the same teams made it in the playoffs again. Hmm. Do we need a Bocce Premier League? Ooo…we could call it the “High Rollers” with the Stiltwalker rolling a bocce ball…YES! Well, it’s at least a good idea for a T-shirt.

Anyhow, I think the best part of this zany league is that the final game of the season was played by 2 non-playoff bound teams and it was still a hard fought 15-13 match. It’s great to see people enjoying the game enough to play even when the stakes are low. Also, we have beer, which helps.

Thank you for another magical season. Next week is playoffs – come cheer on your former adversaries and friends. And I mean, 3-peet? Is it gonna happen? Buckle up! It’s gonna be a fun ride! #luppoletohighrollers ~ JW
