Fall '23 | Week 7 Recap

It’s obvious. From their swagger, their carefully choreographed warm-up stretches, their fierce chants, yes everything down to their custom stitched uniforms; Team Szabo is serious. In fact, Szabo is Hungarian for “Tailor”. While they left the uniform stitching to, “Some dude on Amazon”, Mik knows how to thread the needle on the bocce courts. Together, Terry & Mik have stitched together an impressive string of victories including this hard-fought win over the Bocce Behemoth, Irish I Was Italian. They still sit 1-point out of first place which is, “Exactly where we want to be” said Terry…probably…between bites of victory Goulash.

Oddly enough, Irishiwasitalian is Hungarian for “We were SO close!”.

True to form, Team Irish DID put up a good fight but the self-proclaimed, “Tom Brady of Bocce” just couldn’t miss. Speaking of Tom Terrific maybe the Patriots should switch to Bocce or Pickle Ball or heck…Kickball at this point. Anything to get a win. It’s pathetic. DO YOUR JOB BELLICHEK!

Annnnd we’re back. Captain of the Mia Hampsters, Sean G., is also Irish but somehow his team has NOT put up much of a fight this whole season. Luckily, there are 2 Irish pastimes, and his team is skilled at the other. (Have I mentioned I am Italian and Irish?)

The Fern Four had a REAL opponent this week – well sort of, Will was playing against them. Still…I fear that when Jen and I filled in last week, we did them a disservice by giving them such an easy opponent and quick, decisive win. Clearly they let their guard down and got bowled over by Closing Time.

Barsenic fell to infighting this week. Which is to say, they played a scrimmage against themselves. (Their opponents where unable to make it.) Awarding league points will be tricky because they won, but also….they didn’t.

Wanna know the simple truth? The Dirty Lowdown? This is just a wonky season for The Ball Busters. Like Icarus they flew too close to the sun last season and have been plummeting to the sea ever since. That’s why you need to be “Careful Icarus”! Hopefully they can bounce back next week – or next season. It’s never too late for a compelling redemption arc!
